Whatsonstage.com has opened up nominations for their yearly awards, so here’s our chance to get Burn on the shortlist of nominees for his role as Bill Sikes in “Oliver!”.

Go to the WhatsOnStage nomination page and fill in his name under Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. While you are at it, why not nominate Jodie Prenger for Best Actress in a musical, Oliver! for Best Revival, or Burn’s Torchwood alum John Barrowman for Best Actor in a musical for La Cage Aux Folles.

You do not have to fill in all the spaces on your nomination page, so don’t worry if you don’t know any nominations for the other categories.

First off, for those who've held off watching Vampire Diaries? Don't hold off. Its hitting its stride and getting good actually. I'm surprised.

Now, about tonights Supernatural ep. Of course, warning for spoilers. I'm not quite sure what to say. I was expecting a straight forward Trickster ep, and even found myself going "FUCK! NO!" when I thought the boys had killed him (I love the Trickster, some of my fave eps, Mystery Spot especially). But to turn around and find out it was Gabriel impersonating him threw me for a loop. Although, the parallels they are drawing between Michael/Lucifer and Dean/Sam.....I'd be happier if they weren't being so heavy handed about it. It's just too in your face, if that makes sense. I wish they'd be a bit more subtle about it.

Stupid Windows Live Messenger "upgrade".....I've spent the last 2 hours trying to connect with it and it won't.

I tried to log in with the version I had, and it insisted that I HAD to upgrade, that it would not allow me to connect until I did. So I updgraded my version.

And it won't connect.

So I've fallen back to using Trillian for now until I can figure out what the problem is.

Hmmmm......well, maybe it would have been better had I not spent the last 2 days watching the original V on a stroll down memory lane (thanks, SyFy), but something is missing in this reboot of the series so far. Its like they tried to fit too much too fast in the first ep, trying to establish too many characters all at once. I think I need to see a few more eps before I make a decision on it fully.

My UK trip (Part 1)

I always end up not doing this, but I am going to do it this time.

Wednesday October 21/Thursday October 22nd

I appreciate greatly that my brother was driving me to the airport in Syracuse so early in the morning, but he showed up ahead of time and rushed me out the door. I was supposed to be up at 4am (after working til Midnight the night before), but my alarm never went off. Cue me waking up on my own at 4:20 am, flipping out, and beginning to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. I wasn't expecting my brother to show up til 5:30...so of course, he shows up at 4:50, and is trying to rush me out the door as I am still getting dressed and getting last minute stuff together. Because of this rush, I left behind my travel alarm clock, my brush, my false eyelashes for my costume, some goodies I'd bought for Mel, and several other little bits and bobs. Le sigh. At least all the really important stuff made it into my bags.

We were on the road by a little after 5, and made the 90 mile trip to Syracuse in fairly good time. Got to the airport about 7. And my in-a-hurry-brother did no more than pull up to the curb, toss my bags on to the sidewalk, and peel off for home. So I lugged my bags inside to the ticket counter, checked 2 of them, and headed up to the security. Note for myself for next time I fly: buy some slip on shoes. There is nothing more embarrassing then standing at security trying to get off a pair of lace up boot/sneakers so you can send them through the machine. Stupid US security. They don't make you do it in England, but the US makes you do it. It also requires me about half unpacking my carry on and putting into separate bins my bag, any liquids in their own baggie, my shoes, my laptop, and my jacket. And then having to collect them all at the other end, get them all back in my bag, and put my shoes back on.

I like the Syracuse airport because its SMALL. Even if you're flying from the last gate, its a very short walk to it. Unlike, say, Philadelphia or Heathrow (both monster sized airports and its takes time to get across them). We started boarding at 7:50 and actually took off for Charlotte 10 minutes early. And arrived in Charlotte 20 minutes early. Which, normally wouldn't be a bad thing, would just give me more time to get to my departing gate. But I already had a scheduled 8 hour layover and I flew in to gate D2...and would be leaving from D11, so I didn't need to change terminals. Good news is that D terminal is the newer terminal, has good food places in it, and most importantly- lots of power outlets in the seating areas I could plug my laptop into! Which was essential in my bid to stave off boredom induced insanity. I managed to catch up on the first 3 eps of Flash Forward and watch 2 movies and chat to people online in that time.

Of course, my flight to London was 30 minutes late leaving Charlotte (yeah, this trip was turning out so well **eyeroll**). And it was hell. Constant turbulence, felt like I was on a roller coaster for the 7+ hours, which meant I couldn't sleep (and I desperately wanted to). On top of that, the in-flight entertainment system died half way thru the flight....so no movies or music to distract me. Was never so happy to be back on the ground in my life. Getting through customs was a bitch though. 300 passengers, only 4 customs agents...took 40 minutes to get thru because I was the last in line because it took me forever to get there from the gate. Collecting baggage and finding the train terminal was no problem though.

And this is where the trip improved drastically. I was sat inside at the main train area, because I still had over an hour til my train. I asked a gentleman in the group near me what the time was, and suddenly found myself befriended by a group of retired Irish rugby players. They were headed for some kind of reunion. They were awesome....insisted on carrying my luggage down to the train platform for me, bought me a cup of tea and a pastry because i looked "well knackered" and about to drop. One of them said I reminded him of his daughter, and he'd be worried sick about her if she was traveling internationally by herself and to make sure I stayed safe. They made my morning, let me tell you.

I wasn't taking the train to Robertsbridge, where Mel lives, but to St Leonards Warriors Square (a few miles from her). The reasoning for this was going to St Leonards I didn't have to change trains anywhere, but I would have had to change trains twice on the other route. And it took me through some absolutely beautiful country. I got all excited seeing my first white cliff face (yeah, I'm a dork, I know). Towards the end, as we got closer to my stop, I realized we were at the coast! Yes, my knowledge of England geography is dismal. I am like a little kid sometimes on these trips, when I see sights I wasn't expecting and they excite me. I love seeing new places. St Leonards' train station is very small town quaint, and quite lovely. Even if when I got off the train, it was on the platform on the opposite side which meant dragging all my luggage up over the bridge over the tracks. Which was easy to do because Mel was right there to greet me! Was so happy to see her. I missed her so much since my last trip.

We dragged my baggage over the bridge, met dad with the car and loaded in quickly as there was an officer approaching quickly to tell us we couldn't park there. And thus begin my impromptu car tour of Hastings as we tried to get to Mel's boyfriends house to drop off a computer cable to him before heading home. It was rather quite nice, but I get why they call that section of town "Maze Hill". Lots of tiny, narrow winding streets, that supposedly 2 cars can fit down. Unfortunately, have the streets we tried to take were either blocked or under construction...or had an ambulance parked in the middle of them. We had to keep backtracking. It was fun though and a great way of seeing some of the area. Including lots of the seaside. I think we bored dad to tears though with all the TW/DW talk going on. After stopping off for food and a few errands, we finally made it back to Mel's and settled in, had something to eat, and eventually passed out from exhaustion for a bit. At least, until my leg cramp woke me up and I had to get up and move around. Spent the rest evening watching Buffy, visiting with James (Mel's boyfriend, he hadn't answered the door when we'd shown up there earlier) who had dropped by, and going to bed somewhat early.

Friday October 23rd

After a good nights sleep (maybe...lol), we were up at before 8 to get ready to catch our train to London at about 10. More Buffy was watched while getting ready, a plate of toast was devoured, and tea was drunk. Running around and making sure we had everything (including numerous tickets for things over the next week), we made our way out the door and dad dropped us off at the train station.

(Recap of the trip will continue in another post later....)

I've landed safely in Charlotte. My flight to Syracuse is not for another 6 hours, and then I'll be there by midnight. I should be back to Endicott by 2am.

I am sitting here very depressed. It sucks leaving England and Mel. I don't feel like the US is my home anymore. I feel more comfortable over there.

I'll write up a long trip report once I am home. Trying to find a power outlet here at the airport as I am in the old terminal and they are scarce here.

Today, other than the shit that happened at the train station, was fucking brilliant. Our hotel is NEXT DOOR to the theater John is doing La Cage at. In fact, this is the view from our living room window.

That is the stage door at the theater.

Dinner was had at the Sherlock Holmes Pub before the show.

The look of the place is brilliant (and the display upstairs of Holme's study was amazing). Sadly, the food was mediocre and the service was even worse. I was very disappointed in my leathery roast beef and extremely chewy yorkshire pudding. The gravy was good though.

The show with John was amazing. I cried during "I Am What I Am". We had front row of the upper balcony, and they ended up being really good seats to see everything. The show is spectacular, and the entire cast is wonderful. We got to see John after the show, and got stuff signed.

thought_ribbons, I got you your poster, program, and the black tshirt with "I Am What I Am" in pink glittery text on it (I didn't know the size, so I bought x-large....it will shrink in the wash if its too big). I bought myself a program and a copy of his new book...which he signed at the door. And he signed your poster, thought_ribbons.

We all came back to the flat and read the first few chapters of John's book out loud to each other and now everyone is getting ready for bed and settling in for the night.
